PROJECT SYRIA

Through eyes of Syrian Civilian

Project Syria was designed to shed light on notable incidents and cases due to Syrian Crisis by data driven approaches. The below are general facts that many peope know through the media.

5 YEARS
CIVIL WARS

Syrian Civil War was triggered by intensive repression of Assad regime. They started to use military force to stop peaceful protests since 2011.

132,559 OF
DEATH

4,809,787 OF
REFUGEES

UN's refugee agency reported that 4,809,787 refugees were registered. Majority of refugees are staying in Middle east & Europe.

However, these records do not fully explain why Syrian Crisis can not be stopped. While most media has been focused 'Islamic State' and 'European migrant Crisis', voice of Syrian people has been neglected.

RISE OF ISLAMIC STATE

Troops of 'Islamic State' were marching on the street of Raqqa, a city in the middle of Syria. Raqqa is one of the their main base since 2011.

MIGRANT CRISIS IN EU

Syrian refugees were having protest for claiming openning border between Hungary and Slovakia at the budapest train station.

In order to reflect view of Syrian civilian, PROJECT SYRIA collected crowd sourcing data through the Syrian community. By analyzing and visualizing the data from various sources, we described the reasons why they had to escape Syria.

EXTREME IMBALANCE
OF REFUGEE DISTRIBUTION

Analysis on UNHCR's data about refugees enabled us to see imbalanced acceptance of displaced people from 2011 until now. Especially, more than 80% of refugees have found new destinations of Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan while Gulf States been reluctant to incorporate themselves into migrant crisis.
